I'm in the South Bay and it's usually a 25-50 min drive for me to get to Intel despite being <10 miles. I'm a home owner in San Jose so relocating is definitely not an option. Commuting by car or BART/Caltrain to SF is already ~2 hours each way and makes me hesitant to be open to new opportunities. Wanted to get most people's outlook. Whether it be because you have a family or just don't want to give up the time you have to yourself, what's the most amount of time you'd be willing to lose from commuting for a new job? (Since traffic can vary so much I thought it'd be best to use time instead of distance)
Wake up early to beat the traffic
- For SJ, get an EV for a carpool lane sticker. Works like a charm in the evenings on 87. - For SF, best case is to rent out place in SJ and rent new home closer to the city.
Jobs of good caliber should be willing to work with schedule.
Willing to spend the whole week on commute if the employer can tolerate it.
