How many hours of sleep do you get per night ?

I sleep around 6 hours. I want to sleep more but body just wakes up after 6 hours. What about you? May be I should take melatonin.

How dark is your bedroom? If you find yourself waking up when the sun comes up regardless of how long you’ve slept try going to bed earlier or getting blackout curtains

Yeh not dark at all. I keep blinds/curtains open. Good tip.

Those who responded less than 5 and greater than 10, could you comment on how you are able to do that ? What is the condition ?

I sleep less than 5 usually. The reason is that I take a medication that causes insomnia. I have another medication that helps me sleep, but it knocks me out for 6 hours. I can't function at all. I don't take it unless I have to since I have kids. I am worried if there's an emergency I couldn't take care of them. Once or twice a week I take a small dose of Ativan (Ativan is not the one that knocks me out for 6 hours; I can function with it but it makes it very hard to wake up) and get a good night's sleep.

If your insomnia is not caused by anxiety then you should talk to your doctor about a medication called Tizanidine. It's a very powerful muscle relaxant with a very short half life. It's out of your system after about 6 hours. I have chronic insomnia and my doc prescribed it. I wake up without any groginess and it doesn't mess with the brain like many sleeping medications do. If your insomnia is caused by anxiety then it probably won't help. It'll make you tired but won't relax you mentally. An SSRI can work wonders for that. Medications like Ativan and Zoloft are also prescribed for anxiety. They work, but good luck waking up the next morning.

Looks like most people sleep around 7 hours per day.
