[Blind] Check out this post! Global warming (Housing) https://us.teamblind.com/s/srD0jPtv This post got me thinking. How many of you considered future effects of global warming while buying home or at least deciding what state you want to buy in? This might sound stupid or overkill but I actually considered this while buying my house and decided on Washington because it is relatively colder still. It won't be in coming years but at least it will be for my son's life and may be his kids' too. May be. After that what happens I don't know, my grand children will decide for themselves based on the situation then. I just want to try to plan for my next 2 generations. Just trying to. As much as possible and practical. Global warming is happening and is only gonna get worse in the future. I know many don't believe it. My own father didn't. I respect your opinion. Hoping you respect mine. Hoping for a good respectful discussion or exchange of thoughts. Thank you! Tc 200k #globalwarming
I have the same thought as you OP. That's why I feel I will eventually move away from Cali and to Seattle. Cali will face an unprecedented drought that is gonna affect daily life water supply if the global warming trend keeps going.
You realize Seattle is due for a mega earthquake right?
Look up Cascadia subduction zone, only reason I haven't already moved there.
When the global elite stop traveling in private jets to conferences all over the world to talk about how OTHER people should sacrifice to stop global warming, maybe I’ll listen. Let’s take a trip back to the 2000 election. One guy owned a huge house and used massive amounts of coal produced power to heat it and the pool. The other owned a smaller house heated with geothermal energy. Mr geothermal became President. Heated pool became a climate activist.
Who cares. I'll be very dead. Not gonna be my problem
Sorry, but it is because of this attitude that the situation has come to this.
What can I do? Put on some solar panels and problem solved?
Have you looked at the predictions of global warming? What is the expected rise in temperature by 2050?
I read earlier but didn't remember. Quick google search seems to show this
How can anyone live if the temp goes up 1.5C. I already sweat too much.
I sold a house where I couldn't add solar to buy a house where I could add 33 high efficient panels....it was really this simple for me. I wanted to generate enough electricity for my family of five and also store excess in garage with 2 powerwalls....I was able to do this successfully....six years so far producing more than we use.
Congrats. I also have plans to install solar but currently have other items in my list. Saving up a little for that because it's a big investment as far as I've seen.
The issue in the future could be lack of water
Absolutely not. Like hell no.
You’re not safe anywhere. That’s the whole point of climate change.
Correct. That's why at least trying to be in places which "may" be safer for a little bit longer than other places. Note. We're talking about 100s of years of timelines, not a single human lifetime.
Yes. Located near large freshwater resources, in an area that shouldn't have drought problems (at least not like the southwest), and with local crop/farming capabilities so we can buy sustainable local food
I didn’t consider global warming before buying my house and I regret it. The house is too big for my needs (2 people with no plans for kids). It has a swimming pool that requires heating and the house consumes a lot of electricity and natural gas. We also use a lot of water for the big lawn and pool. Planning to sell soon and move to a smaller house or condo. In the meantime I switched electricity supplied to 100% renewable to help a bit.
You do realize that you can’t pick what source your power comes from right? You choosing “renewable” from your power company just means you’re paying extra for the exact same energy, the majority of which is produced via fossil.
I did choose a different electricity provider that is 100% renewable. Their electricity feeds into the power grid and they get the payment for the amount that I use each month.
Even the global warming prophets buy oceanfront property. What does that tell you?
It tell me they can afford to lose it
I didn't know this tbh. May be they know more about it than I.
