Accepted into G on 4th or 5th try over 10+ years
Rejected by Amazon, got into Google and Facebook. One attempt for each.
I've actually turned all of them down. My number one requirement is working remotely. All of them wanted me in an office and reached out to me. I said no thank you. This is now. A decade ago when I was actually open to relocating and working in an office, I did an interview with these companies and went through the full 9-11 interviews, including on-site campus visits. I think those were the terrible days of interviewing. Those were the days when they used to give riddles and all sorts of other crazy interview questions. They thought they were clever. These days if the company tells me it's going to take nearly a dozen interviews, I won't even waste my time. I prefer to work somewhere else. It says a lot about the bureaucracy and culture of the company. Back in the used to ask dumb questions like, "imagine you're locked in a room, there's one light switch and three light bulbs..." After doing that for a few years, all the tech companies stopped doing that because they realized it was a poor indicator of actual job performance. Interviewers used to get off on telling riddles and trying to stump people. Too bad for them, I watched a lot of Batman growing up and always figured The Riddler out.
Sometimes you can work remote even if not listed. For my current role it didn't mention remote but after Leaking to the hiring manager they let me join remote. Different at different companies but I think Amazon was similar last year IDK about now
How are the current LC styled interviews any better than the riddles?
