I am a DE CW who was recently let go from Meta. Only have til Friday on the bench with Accenture before I am officially unemployed. So far have sent out 70+ applications in the past 2 weeks with only 1 interview, 6 rejections and 0 offers. The job market is brutal right now. On top of data engineering, I have some experience in web dev as well. I'm thinking about potentially starting to cold call/email small companies in my area to try to land some freelance projects while simultaneously applying for full time jobs. My question to people with freelancing experience is how much can one expect to make in doing so? I made $75/hour as a Meta CW, so if I could make that much or more fairly consistently, I would potentially consider doing it full time. I am aware it's as much of a sales job as it is coding, but I am fine with that. TC 156k soon to be 0 after this week 5 YOE #freelance #webdev #dataengineering
When I was a freelance cloud architect/developer I was working multiple projects pulling in about $8K to $8,500 weekly. I loved those days. Not sure what freelance DEs make. Don’t under charge for your services.
That's pretty wild. If you don't mind sharing, what was your primary means of finding clients?
Initially, go through recruiters to build your reputation to find clients, and then branch out on your own after that. Do 1099 not W2 through recruiters so you can charge higher highly rate. My lowest hourly rate was $120/hourly.
What? Do you work for Accenture? If you do they should probably pay you. Wtf
And if so you are not Meta, you’re Accenture
I am an Accenture Flex employee, meaning they hired me specifically for the Meta project. For that reason, now that my last day at Meta was the 14th, I only have until the 21st on the bench with Accenture before I am officially unemployed entirely
What's CW?
Contingent worker. I was a contractor from Accenture working at Meta
Was your contract terminated early or the tenure got completed?

Is the bench policy at Accenture 2 weeks?!!! Hanging there, you will get some offers.
Not sure what it is for regular Accenture employees. I am an Accenture Flex employee, meaning they hired me specifically for the Meta project. I was given only 1 week on the bench before I am let go. Friday is my last day with Accenture if I don't find another assignment before then
F Accenture! Have couple if friends in Infosys and TCS that got/getting months on the bench.
