I keep seeing differing comments regarding PM salaries. Some say they don't get paid enough, some say they get overpaid. Some say they get paid less than SWE, some say they get paid more. Obviously there are many people on the internet with different experience to back up their salaries but I make good money as a software engineer and I am worried about the loss of salary down the road as a PM which I have enjoyed the last year. I am conflicted and wondering if I should go back to SWE. TC: 87k YOE: 1.5 as a SWE, 1 as a PM #pm #productmanager #softwareengineer #salary
Depending on the company, PMs make an equal or lesser amount relative to SWEs. They usually make roughly the same amount, so you aren’t likely to miss out as a PM. That being said, PMs don’t ever make more, at least I have never heard of such a case.
you had me at leaser
I hardly know her
I’d argue that an average dev makes same or a bit more than an average PM.. however a top performing PM makes more than a top performing dev
Microsoft senior PM is 210-260k TC
Amazon sr product manager makes around $250k, same level sde can be more than twice that
Not true.
Depends on tech or non tech Non tech pm make around 230 ish and tech pms can go in the 300
PMs are in the decision loop and better positioned to rise to CEO roles
Echoing others here. From my experience PMs will make the same or slightly less (between 10-20%) than SWE at the same level.
PMs make less than eng at same level, but PMs get leveled up easier. Feels like it evens out more or less for same YoE
Non tech PM at Amazon - L5 170-190k Facebook IC5 200-250k
Check levels.fyi I’m L5 Product manager and 140k
L5 Program Manager here, same pay^
Is PM product manager or program manager or project manager or product manager tech?
I am referring to product managers in general but I am a technical product manager if that helps.
Absolutely no one with PgMs try to bring the confusion in when someone says PM. Somehow program managers seem to like to be grouped with product managers. Personally, idc what role as long as you are happy but the clamoring to be considered a part of the product team is funny!!
There are PM salaries on levels.fyi
The problem with that is YOE. It's difficult to estimate as a lot of people transistion into PM after many yoe in swe. Is it purely PM yoe or total
It’s total YOE, if you worked at McDonald’s for 10 yrs before transitioning to a PM role of 2 yrs, total YOE is 12.
