Am I racist if I donβt want to marry a Southeast Asian?
So, here is my situation. My current company pays me in π₯ and there is no growth in my current role. I had applied to on of the Jobs at #Mathworks and 2 rounds of interviews are done and there is a HR round going to be scheduled in a day or two. I checked levels.fyi ambitionbox and glassdoor the average salary of Software Engineer at Mathworks in India is βΉ18LPA or $24k with no stocks. Even if I ask 100% hike from my current CTC. I will no where be close to the figure above. I don't want to get low bowled by HR because of my current CTC. How much does a Mathworks pay for Software Engineer ? Is it okay to ask huge jump in CTC because I saw salaries on internet? Also any tips for negotiation would also be appreciated. YoE: 3 TC: π₯
Nothing wrong in asking as your reasoning is perfectly solid that you want to be on par with your peers in future company.
One of my friend was suggesting not to ask beyond 100% hike. But thank you, I think I can try to get the salary range from HR itself. Should also help me get an idea of what they are likely to offer.
There's no rule about 100% hike. It makes sense if the you are asking them to stretch beyond their average budget for a role. Then the company can come back and ask you to be reasonable in your demand as it's more than x% or your previous salary. But you are quoting this to reach the company's average, it shouldn't hurt to ask that and also stick to your guns.

18 LPA is pretty average for 2-3 YOE here in MathWorks. So, definitely go for it.
Thank you. Can I DM you regarding interview process?
sure
18 lpa you could ask and mostly should get it. Pretty normal here for 2 to 3 years experience.
Thank you. Will do the same. Do you mind if I DM you regarding interview process?
Yeah you can dm me
18 lpa is average here. You can go for it
Even if your salary is peanuts you can mention the number that will help community understand how much your company pays. Yes itβs okay to ask more than 100% hike if you know their standard salary is that. You can mention to HR that your previous salary is very low and what you are asking is market standard. I did that and got 200% hike
Wow! Congrats. Will do the same.
