Are you less willing to take risks, job hop, join new teams, etc.?
Prevented me from taking more risks, Accepting promotions and title changes even if they were lateral. It also prevented me from diversifying and exploring other disciplines. I have been offered very senior positions in smaller companies which I couldn’t take due to risking my visa. Haven’t been able to publish books as it would violate my visa.
A funding of $2M got rejected after approval from a VC, because I couldn’t incorporate a company on visa and couldn’t find a fellow co-founder who’s a citizen or GC holder that was completely invested in the company. Tried setting up a board and getting hired as CEO with employer-employee relationship but VC wasn’t willing to accept a hired executive/founder. Before people ask, have also tried contacting lawyers and setting up through EB5. But couldn’t invest $500k on a project because I don’t have enough cash for it. All this, while I was graduating from one of the top 3 CS schools. Did I mention? Still on OPT and about to be kicked out in 18 months if I don’t get H-1B.
That's shitty but p impressive you could get it to that point. You mean 18 months as in getting picked in the lottery?
Yes, getting picked in the lottery.
Yes.. less willing to job hop.
I have startup ideas that I don’t implement because I’m not able to legally.
Same. So many PoCs just sitting mothballed waiting for the GC
