Currently working at a good small sized company working on modern tech stack (think Rust style). Fully remote and generally satisfied with great WLB and peers, and been here for about 10 months. Tc: 180k Got an offer for a company I had interviewed with before I joined current place for about 20% higher (35k increase, 15k in base and 20k in RSU awards). TC: 215k. Only issue is the new place is hybrid with 2-3 days in office which I don’t mind. But the biggest issue is the stack. It’s essentially a PHP based team. What are the PHP prospects like? Is it worth jumping ship and leaving a good stack/team? #engineering #software #swe
Agree. Stay where you are. You would spend more time because of commute, work with outdated tech, you do not know anything about WLB and peers. And you will barely notice TC jump after taxes on top of all that.
WLB seems to be fairly well at new place based on blind reviews but has recently incorporated a new stack based ranking kind of thing where only a certain amount can get exceeds ranking etc… An extra 35k sounds enticing for sure but just not sure if I’ll be screwed for taking on PHP. Never worked with PHP but have read generally negative reviews.
New company is sqsp?
I don’t think you should join, you are working on a good tech stack + remote + with a good WLB and peers. The offer you got, more than half of it is in RSU. Like you said opportunity is for hybrid and tech as PHP, your time will be spend in travelling + learning the PHP. Time = Money, so your 35k increment comes down to very low number if you think it that way.
That TC bump is not worth it to leave a place you like and working on a modern tech stack
At what point would it be worth while?
+ 25k cash and + 45k stock
