I am SDE1 at Amazon. And today I am put on PIP. As per the posts, there is minimal chances of recovery. I am looking for new jobs. How much attention should I pay to project assigned for PIP? Is there a side effect if I don't pay attention to it at all and concentrate totally on interviews. Can they lower the number of days left in PIP?
I donât know how this works at Amazon, but a pip isnât something that gets only evaluated at the end of the month at facebook. If there was a major slippage at the end of the first week or after two weeks, this would probably prompt the manager to take immediate action.
Do you mind telling what lead to PIP?
You should make a choice: save your job or look for another. After you choose, put your full effort there. I think looking externally is usually the easiest choice.
I mean, if OP is on visa he/she needs to have at least 2 weeks overlap between current and new job.
OP has decided to focus their energy on looking for jobs outside Amazon. I believe theyâre asking what (if anything) they should work on to avoid being fired midway.
They need to see that youâre putting in the effort towards recovery and are also improving. If youâve not been able to figure out what it takes itâs better to quit and focus, if you can afford to do so. Although, Iâm not sure though how recruiters these days perceive out of job candidates.
OP, how long have you been at Amazon? Wanted to see how brutal their culture is.
Just quit and start somewhere else. It's not worth putting all that effort in pip when your manager already had a bad taste in his mouth
I don't have an offer yet and bad performance reviews and ultimately PIP has all happened in the last couple of weeks. I was told if I don't perform well in this project for the coming month, then I would be put under PIP. I had put out all my efforts since then but today he took back that months time and put me in PIP. I am on visa and I can't stay unemployed for more than 2 months. So, I need some time in this job to prepare.
That's brutal. I would start looking asap. Your manager obviously isn't going to cut you slack even if you did put that time into the PIP. Start applying and interviewing ASAP.
Moral of the story: don't work at Amazon if you're on visa.
Zero
Today: Update your resume, send it to all your contacts. Tomorrow: Start leetcoding, 2 questions per day in the morning before work. At work: Slave towards your PIP. Youâll likely be staying in late, so get leetcode out of the way in the morning. Ultimately, you need to find a new job. For the PIP, it helps if you make some effort so they donât fire you early, but no more than that. The PIP is designed to ensure people fail and you are probably not a special snowflake who will succeed.
I would say "slog just enough such that they don't fire you right away". Focus strongly on getting a new job
You don't want to appeal?
