I am making 280k (400k if you count options which may never liquidate) for a startup in a M/LCOL city remotely. The property here is like 650k-700k for a 3000 square feet new construction SFH. I am wondering in my case, how much should I target for if I wanted to move to the Bay or a tech hub?
You will have to commute 1-1.5 hours one way and the 3k sqft house will still cost at least 1.7m. Stay wherever you are!
If you don’t know how to use Redfin I don’t think you’ll do well in the Bay Area
I use Zillow 😬
Gotta divide TC by at least 2 to compare with other COL if you live in Silicon Valley/Bay Area lol
Would be OK to take a paycut to move to the big time imho.
$700K house in MCOL = $4M-$5M house in Bay Area
Man, why move? job isn’t secure? Then move only when laid off
280 in lcol/mcol is absolutely huge

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Don't. 3000 sqft new construction might be 5 mil
⬆️
Yeah it’s insane lol it’s like half that at other HCOLs gotta divide TC by 2
