How quickly could I move teams from Seattle to Boston in Amazon?
I have a great offer for Amazon in Seattle. Love the team too. Unfortunately I need to be in Boston. I applied for lots of Boston Amazon jobs but heard nothing on those. How realistic would it be for an SDE1 to change teams to Boston in a year or less? TC: 85 Amazon TC: 160
Typically after a year you can transfer teams outside org. No strings attached. If you have teams within your org in Boston you could do it sooner assuming your manager is onboard. This all assumes your performance is solid.
This is false. The restriction of a year was removed couplenbof years ago.

There is no restriction and you can transfer in the first month itself if you are able to find a team.I switched orgs in 3 months of joining ( same location).
Wow.. Did you have tech interviews? How do they judge current performance when you are less than 6 months old at Amazon?
Yeah how did you do that? I’d be joining Amazon as well. I’m wondering the same.
It is realistic. I did an internal transfer within 6 months after I joined as sde1. But it also depends on openings for sde1 and it won’t be many in Boston.
Get promoted then the internal transfer is super easy. Alternatively talk to recruiting and tell them you have a preference for Boston and see if they can find you any openings.
The latter is my plan right now. Moving to Seattle is not a good option for me, even temporarily
