I am evaluating an L5 SWE offer with an engprod team at google. A friend who works there tells me that this org is at risk of layoffs since they don’t work on customer facing problems. Is this true? (I like the team I have matched with and they have good work) Offered TC: 440k Yoe 12 #google
Be aware that engprod is mostly test infra despite what they may have sold you on. It's often positioned deceptively during the hiring process.
Yes. I understand that it’s test infra. The hiring manager was upfront about it. This team is tackling a good problem and has quite a bit of dev work.
Would career growth be a problem here though?
No one knows except sundar's wife's second cousin's boyfriend's lawn care. And they aren't talking to me any more.
I selected "as safe as the product team" but the truth is neither is safe. Cloud is the only org (as far as I see) that's still grown this yr and is at less risk of layoffs/axe. If your engprod team is under cloud then it may be safe as well.
Thanks! It is in the Cloud org
Then I'd make the leap. I'm also in cloud. Seems like the wlb isn't as good as the rest of google. But it's the only product google has that still has a good growth rate so it's been relatively safe from the layoff mess.
TC breakdown? Is 440k front loaded?
225k base 15% target bonus Stocks front loaded at 33, 33, 22, 11 530k stocks
225k+35k+530k/4 = 390k.. yeah so kind of aligns with top end of L5.. good offer OP.
Does anyone have any idea on how much time it takes for HM to make hiring decisions after a team match call?
It depends. Anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks
No where is save
