On LinkedIn, I see a ton of people who attend these specific tech conferences yet it’s never anybody I really know. I’d love to go but feel like I have too much on my plate at work and I’d rather spend that time working than taking 2-3 off. Do you go to conferences? If so, why?
I started going to selective ones this year to make connection (startups, some tech Guru, industry guru, etc.) - who knows if someone ends up liking you and wants you to partner with them. Haven't cracked any deal "yet".
It's the sales people, executives, product to some extent but usually LT there too. And then in the buying side mostly execs that have the power to sign a contract or people looking to buy. Maybe a lucky few that did something innovative on the engineering side that a company wants to feature as "hey look what we can help you do"
"I’d love to go but feel like I have too much on my plate at work and I’d rather spend that time working than taking 2-3 off." Lol what's wrong with you? If your employer is offering an all-expenses-paid vacation, you TAKE IT.
Most of these shows are marketing, even WWDC or I/O. There isn't anything exclusive to the show. Happy to skip them
I went. It's an excused leave of a couple days, free transportation, you can sometimes get a couple extra days to spend in a nice place. Also if you present it looks great on the resume!
The big conferences are worth it. Saves time in long run by working smarter not harder Have to free up the time for 1-2 year if company will pay for it
Went to a tech conference recently (I got a free ticket). It’s mainly grifters, PM, CEOs of no name startups. Lots of the companies I saw were ChatGPT wrappers
They're useless unless you want the vacay and to drink and eat
Yep they’re only good if you want to hang out with your team more and a bunch of other losers
Metamates lol
I fucking hate these things they’re so annoying
PMs, Marketing, Sales and everyone who doesn't code but in tech. Unfortunately deals and etc still happen in person and connections are built in these events while you and I slog to build systems.
True, And how will we know what to slog on and when.
And then these people ask why we get paid so much while they just go talk about what we slog to build.
