Posting this on behalf of my gf. She works at Amazon and I can clearly see she’s burned out(and thinking of resigning right away) and has been experiencing health issues(stomach aches and back pains) from many months now+ she has migraine too.. She completed her first year in Amazon this year and did not get a PIP... My advice to her is get a FMLA leave for 1.5 to 2 months(if that’s possible) to recover.. and make a sound decision(whether to continue in the project/change the project/look for a different company) What’s the advice and process to apply for FMLA in Amazon given that she does not have a specific “disability”. Also (it’s not important though because she may leave Amazon soon), but by taking FMLA.. would that impact her perception in the team and make her a candidate for PIP in 2022 ? P.S : she might take some PTOs next week.. but I don’t think that’s enough for her to recover.
What is FMLA? A “Fuck My Life, Amazon” leave?
lol, pretty much. But really it stands for Family Medical Leave Act.
Anxiety is a disability. She just needs a doctor's note..she can begin FMLA without even going through the formal approval process if she's already pretty bad. There's a portal she can start this process at. A third party will send her paperwork home. 😊
If she takes a therapy session through Dr. Phil Doctor on Demand, she can get a doctor's note. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.doctorondemand.android.patient Talkspace doctor's note is not accepted by Amazon. I suggested Dr. Phil because if is online and it is quick. It is little bit pricey though. She can probably look for a different job while she on FMLA? She can get 12 weeks with this. Then with PTO and sick leave, she will probably get little bit more. I am sure she can find a job in 3 months if she looks for it. She works at Amazon. Lets say she does get PIPed for taking FMLA. She will still have plenty of time to look for a new job. I hope she recovers soon!
Thanks for the detailed feedback
I'm doing the same thing actually. Leave is wrapping up soon, but pretty close to having some job offers. Feel free to DM me on here for more info.

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
Is she on a visa?
Yes on STEM OPT. And her H1B status change is on 1st October this year
Wait until the visa switch. Amazon is known for retaliation. From what I can tell, taking the leave may increase her chance of being put on Pip for next year.
