I’ve been in the credit card and lending world for about 8 years, with various roles in operations, business intelligence and strategies. How would someone with this profile fit in the big tech firms if looking for a switch? experience with SQL, python, card operations, tableau dashboard building and management. any suggestions??

Your background doesn’t define your future. Only your skills, ambition, passion, and faith. Go for it.
That’s true. exactly why I’m trying to gather info for my next move.
Don’t worry about the company on your resume. Focus on your resume first and then your self-awareness. If you can do your job well, you show ability to learn, and they like you then you have a good shot.
This exp might be more relavant in services side at Microsoft.

Ask yourself why do you want to get into a big company in tech? Getting into a big tech company it’s not really a sustainable career goal. What do you actually want to accomplish ?
How is it not a sustainable career goal? This whole app is that career goal
Because less than 1% make it. It’s like setting a career goal to be a twitch streamer or baseball star.

How’s your LinkedIn? How will recruiters and hiring managers know that you could be a great fit for their role? You’ve got to sell yourself! Think of LinkedIn and similar sites as your advertisement page for your skills and accomplishments. Make sure that key words that a recruiter/ hiring manager might use to fill their role are on your LinkedIn. I never even applied to my last 3 roles until I was well within the interview process. With 8 YOE recruiters for full time roles have always proactively reached out to me. Make them come to you and remain in the drivers seat for as long as possible. Lastly, if you want to appear at the top of the search list on LinkedIn, you need to be active on LinkedIn. No you do not need to write posts and reshare articles, etc. All you have to do is follow the companies you want to get hired at, and like things they post particularly when it’s related to the role you want. The best way to like something that you don’t agree with for visibility on the platform is to use the ‘insightful lightbulb’ or the ‘curious’ icon. Increase your visibility to the people that need to see you. If I got into 2 FAANG’s with my qualifications AND NO referrals, with no initial application for the role, there’s no reason that you can’t. 8 YOE 360K TC
Second the LinkedIn tip. I did not even need to draft a resume for years. Just add in as much data describing your goals and qualifications and let the search engines work their magic
Thank you. This is helpful. I have not been active on any networking sites, and I should be , as I was growing comfortable in my current role. Now that I understand how important that is, i’ll revisit it and work towards it.
Disregard the tips on referrals here, they are way too overrated. Especially at Microsoft and Amazon they are basically community engagement incentives: they rarely influence any steps of the hiring process, just gets the reference a referral fee if the candidate gets hired
