Do you have any tips for someone time trying to get their first tech PM job? I'm okay with non-FAANG and outside the bay area. 8YOE 90% HW + 10% SW exp MS EE, MBA
Why do you want to be a PM? No further life aspirations?
Why are PMs looked down upon?
What's a good reason to look up to them?
Cuz almost no one loves the professional hall monitor who makes you turn in your deliverables on time and on budget. But golly, a lot of people do appreciate our results.
WTF! That’s what a Project Manager does. Not a Product Manager.
Just because you launch a product doesn't make a product manager any less of a project manager. Product managers may have less variety in their project types. Still, they're project managers.
Learn the process and vocabulary (get Product Management for Dummies, an actual book). Get the title at a smaller, possibly low paying company, then find a better company after a year. Once you have the PM title the eng experience will be seen as an asset. Whether all that’s worth it to you depends on your current situation and goals.

If you are PM material you’d have known by now.
Is that an enlightening moment I must wait for? When I have it, will the offers show up themselves?
Lol. Not the offer, but what it takes to become a PM 😂
