Starting as a SWE1 this coming summer (not at lowes). At Lowe’s (my only internship), the way it worked was that everyone just did their tickets for the 2 week sprint and that was it. My question is, if everyone is just doing their tickets, how do I stand out/prepare a promotion packet for SWE2? Blind Tax: username
At most places SWE2 will happen pretty fast if you show up and aren’t a total moron.

Someone assigns the tickets, right? It is usually the manager or tech lead. You can ask for tickets relating to certain projects in order to stand out. You can also ask to lead projects. You will start with an abstract problem, design a technical solution, and implement some or all of it (depending on size and scope). This will involve writing design documents, having meetings with project/product management and other stakeholders, and creating the tickets for the work that will be needed to implement the solution. If you are just starting out as an SWE1 though, you might not be quite ready for this, depending on your prior experience.
This is extremely helpful, thank you very much. My next question is related to my own career path. How many yoe do most SDE2’s at amazon have? I’m starting at C1 this august, and I’m thinking of either trying for amazon immediately as an SDE1 (in my first 6 months of working), or getting ~2 yoe and going for SDE2. What do you think is the better option?
get at least 1-2 yoe. you simply wont have enough stories to tell for LPs that demonstrate sde2 scope and you probably objectively arent ready - judging by your post you've never really lead any small-medium size features/projects end to end which is the baseline for a mid level swe. it takes at least 6-12 months at your current role to build enough context and trust to land those projects and another 6-12 months to crank out enough to feel comfortable with it. it's not a race and quality > quantity
