My career progression 2018: $400/week no name startup. Web Dev 2019: Intuit internship, $1400/week, EndProd tooling 2020: Intuit Fulltime, tc: $125k 2020: Intuit promo, tc: $150k 2021: Amazon L5, $210k 2022: Google L4, $290k I’ve job hopped a lot and want to stay at Google for ~5 years. What can I do to still grow while staying at a team?
Do what everyone else does, work hard, get promoted. Or do politics and get promoted. Latter works better than the former for most companies tho.
The same you did in intuit when you got that promo
Level 1 -> level 2 at Intuit basically just meant showing the ability to do tasks without someone needing to make sure you were actually working. So long as you could code and cared at all you would get promoed I got it pretty fast but that’s just because the bar was so low, I don’t think similar level will work for Google L5
Build relationships across many different teams and roles. The key to senior levels is influence and scaling yourself beyond what you can do as an individual. That's something that takes time and is difficult to do if you hop around.
Alright metamite how are your interns doing
Chances are I’ll still have more vacations in that time than you 🏄
Then jump after 5 years.
Ask your manager or search Moma for career growth guidance - you need to follow the guide and prep your promo package. A well written article - probably google has it too https://medium.com/building-carta/engineering-levels-at-carta-d33db2a55a20 . Follow this no one can stop
Discuss the plan in 1:1 with your manager
And regularly have checkins with them and note down all the points and interactions you made across teams. Ask him what else needs to be done, and set some realistic guidelines

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
Wow. What was your prep?
How about you help OP with their question first before they help you with yours.
If I know answer for that question, my T.C and level would be same as OP's instead of 🥜
