Left Amazon due to the 4 years cliff, after getting an ok offer from a company (not FANG). On the start day, the recruiter called to let me know I passed the interviews. 1.5 weeks later I got the written offer (with a TC that's 75% higher than this company). Now I want to tell my current manager that I'm leaving ASAP. What wording/strategies should I use? I know I'll burn the bridge, but I prefer to minimize the damage and keep a good relationship as much as possible.
Tell the you need 75% pay increase 💰
What if they try to pay it? It's a very low possibility but I don't want to stay there.
Then ask for 85%
Tell them you're leaving for more 💰💰💰. Simple
Is that really a valid acceptable reason?
Yes - say your dream company (even if it’s not) ended up coming through and you’d kick yourself if you didn’t go after it. They’ll understand. It’s business.
If I was your manager I'll ask you to take me along 😁
If I am the manager, I would appreciate for honesty. I will be happy if you state 70% increase since that means you are not leaving because of me (at least I can say that to my manager or HR). But I am minority in that regard. I would just be prepared to hear whatever they say about me.
May the bridges I burn light the way
