I started as applied scientist, did an internal transfer to be a software engineer, then got promoted to software engineer 2. How do I put this on my resume? Vote on the options below (multi-select is on). Want to be honest but also not suggest I’m job hopping, since I was at old team for 1.5yrs, current team 2yrs and now applying again. Option 1: Software Engineer 2, MSFT, 20xx-Present >bullet points Software Engineer 1, MSFT, 20xx-20xx >bullet points Applied Scientist 1, MSFT, 20xx-20xx >bullet points Option 2: Software Engineer 2, MSFT, 20xx-Present >bullet points of all stuff done at this team Applied Scientist 1, MSFT, 20xx-20xx >bullet points Option 3 Software Engineer 2, MSFT, 20xx-Present Software Engineer 1, 20xx-20xx Applied Scientist 1, 20xx-20xx >everything I’ve done on all teams
All of your options are fine, and which one you go for really depends on what's the story you want to tell with your CV. I think option 2 is the most balanced of them and that's what I used in my CV at one point. However: do you have a lot of other work experiences comparable with this one? Go for option 3. Did your job in the second team change a lot after the promo and you want to really emphasize that, go for 1. Remember people reading your CV have limited time and attention, decide what you want to convey in the CV and tell the story accordingly. No one will give you extra points for being exhaustive and accurate for accuracy sake.
Option 2. Recruiters looking at your resume don't care about your career trajectory and you don't really stand to benefit from revealing the details. They only care about your current level and YOE. This should paint a rough picture of your trajectory anyway and is your best option for maximizing for level/scope/TC in your next job.
How is it job hopping if you stayed at the same company?
