Hello all. Looking to move to the bay area but feeling completely lost. Currently on the east coast in the Defense industry. I’m at the top of my pay bands here with little possibility of growth. I’ve been applying at FAANG with no success. Received one call from Apple HR which went well but died down. How do you recommend looking for work in the Bay area? Should I continue to apply on the career websites? Are there recruitng agencies I can contact? How would I go about finding a recruiter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
If you are not hearing back from enough companies after applying, you may need to tailor your resume a bit.
Thank you for the tip.
Current TC is around 180k. Hoping to get to 250k+ in the Bay Area. 12+ yoe.
Referrals are your best bet vs applying on your own.
Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately most of my network is concentrated in the East coast. West coast will almost be like starting from scratch for us.
Another option is to look for companies that have east coast offices, get your foot in the door there and then transfer. Even if it’s a “tech adjacent” company.
I’ve changed “careers” about 3 times. Most of what we work on touches many areas even though you are, for example, an embedded engineer. Not only do you design, but write requirements, project manage, test, interface with users, etc... really tailor your resume to fit with roles that you want. Emphasize more of the skills and achievements of what the role is asking for. It usually takes a full re-write of your resume and even having 3-4 variations of it. I can say that the Bay Area companies are very consumer based so they’re looking for fast product cycles and consumer centric design.. dm me if want to chat more
Contact recruiters on LinkedIn, start with small companies which will bring you right on the track in interview progress, then move to big names
Man why would you willingly move to the Bay Area? Yea we have nice weather, but everything else kind of sucks
