How to negotiate with Google using hedge fund offer?

New Grad here. Got an offer for a hedge fund 200 base, 100 bonus, 75 sign on. I want to join Google. I am wondering how do I negotiate with Google to get around 126/ 250 stock/ 100 sign on? What should be my initial ask? Talking with my recruiter, she said G only matches around 80% of hedge fund offer not including bonus after year 1. So the potential offer would be around 126/ 200/ 50. What are some negotiation techniques have you guys use in the past?

WhTs their first offer?

Show them the offer and ask them to match. Try pushing on their first revision saying “I was hoping for more”. Accept the second revision if it is respectable.

Why don’t you just go to the hedge fund?? Seems like it’s just a way better offer... negotiating that high is certainly a challenge, and likely, google will not go as high as you want when they can get any other candidate to work for less. As a new grad, you don’t have very much sway. If you can get much better at the hedge fund, google has next to no incentive to try to pull you away from that.

Recruiter is lying, call him/her out on that. Very common for recruiter to make up rules re: offer matching for private startups or other cos.

How did you get Citadel interview call?

Was in a similar boat, they can match the sign on and the base. Bonus component is iffy, they will only match a portion of it since it is not guaranteed. So it’s good that your bonus is not a huge portion of your comp. But it all depends on your negotiation skills, good starting point would be: - Match the sign on - Then ask for Google base + bonus + equity = HF base + 30% of bonus

So you could ask for 135base 75sign on 250 stock with front loading 40%/28%... So your comp would be: Y1: $265k Y2: $255k Y3 onwards, it depends on too many variables anyways, like stock appreciation, refreshers and promo.
