I used to have a great relationship with my manager, but when they told me that I got PIPed I sort of felt betrayed? I want to be clear that I'm not saying that they shouldn't have PIPed me for our relationship, I felt betrayed because I didn't see it coming at all? Anyone been in a situation like this? How do you just focus on getting out of PIP rather than focusing on taking it personally?
If you weren’t seeing signs and getting explicit warnings beforehand, either you have a bad manager, or your manager is being forced to do the bidding of bad managers above them. PIP should never be coming out of the blue.
^^^ this. Well said.
Same.
There is pip in Cisco 😳
I’ve heard they always cut the bottom 5%
Which personally I’m glad they do cut the bottom of the barrel. Dead weight needs to keep moving.
What is PIP?
Performance improvement plan
I’d first analyze the human aspect. Birds of a feather flock together. Is he the same race as you? And if anyone thinks race doesn’t matter they’ve not worked at big companies long enough.
Def does. Bamboo ceiling for me that I am trying to break through.
This is ultimately self defeating. If its true, you can't do anything about it because there is plenty of plausible deniability here. After all, Cisco's C-Suite (and the people below it) are rather diverse - high number of East Asians, Indians, women, and Latinos. If its not true, you're basically missing out on an opportunity for self improvement (especially if you aren't planning to stay there) because you're externalizing the blame and not taking ownership for your inability to deliver at a high level.
If your manager didn’t make it clear it was coming based on your performance earlier, then your manager did screw you a little.
If your on a pip look for another job asap.
Right answer
There is no getting out of pip. You need to find a new job.
Perhaps it has to do with you finishing every sentence with a ? mark when you aren't even asking a question. Your manager should've come with a plan of action to go along with the PIP, otherwise your manager is not doing their part to help improve your performance.
🤔
They just tell you today? Are the LRs coming??
