My official workday job title is "Business Analyst". Everyone in the entire department has a job title of BA. Even the managers with 10+ years at the company are BA 2s or BA 3s. So despite writing software that's deployed into production at SEI for almost 5 years now, I have business analyst on my resume instead of software engineer. I don't know how to present this in a way that won't get me fucked when I get an offer and the company runs a background check. The fact is I am a software engineer in every possible way except official HR job title because of my shit company. When I put BA on my resume I get 0 hits. When I change it to software engineer I get calls all day. Any advice?
Do not lie since that can back fire pretty bad during a background check
My strategy so far has been to Software Engineer SEI on my resume and then tell the recruiters on the phone why I put that and why. So far no one has cared but I hope that doesn't change if/when I get an offer and I am just getting worried
That’s the reason I recommend writing both
If my resume says I'm a business analyst even if all the bullet points under it say SWE, everyone still thinks I'm just a BA until I talk on the phone.
Im a SWE functionally and am good at my job. I'm not even too worried about the interviews I just don't want a background check to cause a problem last minute after clearing all interviews.
I’m in a similar situation. Can you please advise what you are finally writing in the resume?

You can write it this way: Role: Software Engineer Title: BA (due to company practices)
