Hi Blind Fam reaching out for help again. Sorry for long rant. I recently got a new job and I resigned at my current one with a 2 weeks notice. In my current job I work on our customer projects by billable days, I have 3 projects which I am working on. Of the 3 projects I am able to finish first one by end of my notice period. for 2nd one there is a delay on some hardware shipment which will arrive in late January so no way I will be able to finish it how ever I have documented and pointed documentation to one of my team mate who should be capable of just following the script and wrap it up. Now the 3rd one is a very simple project can be done by any one with minimum knowledge in my domaine. How ever the planned downtime for project implementation is on Christmas break. I also wrote whole script for it but my manager wants me to hang around for 3 more weeks and wrap this up, which I don’t want to do as I am exited to join my new role, and i get 🥜 for this time period, I don’t want to miss refreshers for next year by joining next year. I am not sure how to say no to him. He has be nothing but nice to me throughout my time here. How ever pointing to COVID they didn’t give me any raise in last 2 years, While I know we made more money last 2 years than any other year since our business was established. as i have deployed lot of solutions and I have worked on 182 days of billable projects so far this year and I also did 163 days last year last 2 years have beaten number of billable days any one at company has worked any other year by a significant margin(48, 29). How ever nothing was shared to me. Hence I had to look outside. This has escalated to our CEO and he called me saying it’s unethical to leave them high and dry and blamed my future employer is using their market and stock power to steel employees from small companies. I told him reason is I have not gotten any raise in last 2 years and he said he will match my offer which is literally twice my current base + 100k stocks per year. Which shows I was terribly underpaid. He on the backend reached out to very higher-ups in the my future employer and started requesting extension (I didn’t see those emails but he said he is talking to someone) How ever I don’t want to piss them off at the same time as I might need my employer recommendations for Green Card application in future. Also I am scared as I don’t know who they have reach to and how it will Impact my future job. I know I am foolish to tell them which company I am moving to. Current TC : 120 K(no paid paternal vacation, no 401k match) Future TC : 235k , 100k(stocks first 4 years) + Paternal vacation+ 401K match YOE: 3 years How do I work in this situation. How to say no, how to not cause issues in my future employer. —————-—————————————- PS: Finally heard back from my future employer’s recruiter and she said my current CEO reached out and is upset that they hired me and requested to extend my start date by few weeks at a minimum. As the current employer is a partner of my future employer(manufacturer) they would like to honor that. Asked me my opinion and how I want to proceed. I told I prefer to start at original start date and I am exited to start working for them but if they think me starting later helps I am fine with delaying start date by 1 week. Also current employer asked to borrow my time for 12 weeks next year to help with some projects. For which my hiring manager said absolutely no. And I said no to it as well. This all looks like my current employer is just flexing to show their power to me.. I feel scared that how it is going to impact my future at the new employer.
Anytime the current employer is willing to match/beat the competing offer - Run! Never accept a counter offer. Value of something will not be known until it’s gone.
tell them politely that they are starting to care about you when sh$t is hitting the fan and not when you really were there for the company. be professional and stick to your guns. also tell them not to meddle in your new job and it's management. I know it's hard to say these things given that you have so much dependency. simply put, just serve your notice period and leave. also explain the new Co mgmt about your situation. they will understand and back you and not a business other than their own
Leave as planned without a second thought
It’s employment at will. Your employer can fire you in one day and it won’t be unethical or illegal. What’s stopping you? Do what is best for ya.
Seems sus to me that your CEO is getting personally involved with contacting “higher ups” at your new employer. I call bs and it sounds like a scare tactic given your green card situation. Don’t give in. Be firm. You’re not leaving anybody high and dry. Two weeks notice is a courtesy, not a law. You could have handed in a resignation letter and been gone that day and you can STILL do that, but as a courtesy you’re not. You can counter that it’s unethical to be so readily capable of matching your current offer but withheld it until now.
Just say sorry not sorry and move on.
One thing is sure. You are not coming back to the current employer no matter what. Even with a matching offer. So basically you are burning the bridge. So burn it hard and move on.
Talk to your new employer about it and make it clear to them that u r very interested and executed in moving despite any countr offers. Tell your current employer you would like to help them, but you have already made a commitment so u can’t back out and extend the date. Be nice when u say no.. tell them it’s a small world, your replacement can ping you after u have left and u will provide any guidance needed etc etc.. but don’t stay back.
Leave and don’t succumb to all this unethical behavior and indirect emotional blackmail - most important rule of thumb is you should almost always never accept a counter offer.
Hey! @docusign on a seperate note, why your stock is tanking ?
What to do 🤦♂️. All time. Hopefully we introspect, address issues and find ways to improve growth and get $ soon so everyone is happy.

What your current company is doing is unethical. Reach out to the new company, explain the situation. They’ll be understanding and help you work it out
Extremely unethical. If any project is Left high and dry, it is a management failure.
Unbelievably unprofessional. You’re smart to get out.
