How would one transfer between SWE disciplines if they’re too busy on their current job to gain exp in a new area?

The work in my dev org is all legacy C programming and scripting around Linux. These skills do not command the 50% pay bump I want. I want to work as an SRE at a top company but we don’t have a real SRE role here so there are big gaps between what I do and what modern SREs do with public cloud, terraform, building data pipelines, architecting networks etc. how can I move into something like this if we don’t have anything like that in-house and I’m too busy doing my actual job?
