Did a hiring event last Friday in Seattle for SDE2. I have almost 2 YOE. The recruiter said she wanted to bring me in for an SDE2 loop and if system design doesn't go well they will down level me. Received the news today that I'm not even being offered SDE1?? The loop was 4 rounds. I didn't do well on system design. The second round I gave the brute force solution. The last 2 rounds were perfect with optimal solutions. Leadership principles were great in every round (was able to use a different example from my career with STAR). The feedback was there was concerns around coding. I got a soft recycle at 6 months. This is very disconcerting considering how aggressively Amazon is hiring and they won't even give me a shot? I've seen posts on here where people say they bombed rounds but still received an offer. Honestly I'm very disappointed. The hiring event apparently was with multiple orgs too so there were tons of openings. I'm just at a loss for words. Can anyone chime in please?
It's possible because of the brute force solution, bar raiser would have considered you meet but not raising the bar.
If that is the reason then how come was not even considered for SDE1
External hires need atleast 3 yrs exp for SDE-2 at Amzn. Also the post makes me think of you as someone who thinks too high of themselves. Try changing that attitude may be. With that attitude, you ain't no Andy Jassy.
Sheeshhhh
That's not true. I know at least 10 persons who got hired at L5 with around 2 YOE.
It’s become pretty rare to hire industry hire SDE1s any more (at least when I left less than a year ago). CDO (retail) fucked that up for the rest of the company and over hired. Most SDE1 spots were reserved for returning interns or college hires to keep relations with the university’s. It would only be that rare SDE2 interview that did well in *all* interviews but just barely lacked something to meet SDE2 bar that could be down leveled to SDE1.
Something way better will come your way, don't give up, who really wants to work for Amazon! very toxic, search on blind.
Your code should be perfect in all rounds to be a SDE1 and design round should be great to be SDE2.
Could be the bar raiser, they take their job seriously
You could be right. Maybe the BR was the person that did my system design round. Who knows.
Yeah BRs often do the systems design piece. They def take themselves seriously
