How's googles spanner team

Had a team match call with the manager and it seems like this is a hard (tech wise) team with high attrition rate.

As long as you are not in Spanner SRE you are fine. It's the SREs who are all like L4 with an L6 manager and the whole team is a revolving door because zero people who still work at G actually know how Spanner works. As SWE you will be on a high impact team. But yes, it's hard, because again, no one left who knows how it works. But if you keep your CLs to XS you will be able to rack up "impact" quickly. I do recommend it. I actually also recommend the SRE team because with being oncall you basically end up with 3 months off per year in lieu. It's pretty sweet if you have no life because you will get paged all the time But, the hard part about SRE isn't the tech, it's dealing with some red in the face L8 yelling at you and mumbling something about lost revenue while literally spitting into the camera in rage TLDR, join the team for a year or two, after that you can deal with anything (other than F1 SRE maybe)

What do you mean by to keep CL to XS?

What’s your background if you don’t mind me asking? When I was at Google this team was super picky at candidates.
