I hear a lot of rumors of mixed reviews about it over there. Are you enjoying it over there? Are the rumors of working crazy late, really bad politics, high pay, and crazy good perks all true? Honestly just curious and it seems like a slower day on Blind. I can share about what life it's like here at Pandora in return if you happen to care.
Is it frowned upon to leave for a direct competitor?
Of course not.
Friend of mine went from Spotify to Pandora
Going pretty well. Dealing with growth and maturity as we approach being a public company. That is causing some friction but I honestly anticipated it being worse. I'm not aware of working late being an issue in engineering at least. Work life balance is pretty good due to the swedish roots. As an American, I'd say Politics are much lower than what I've experienced at any other company. I'm sure there are different groups that would disagree -- we're fairly autonomous so your experience would be different depending on your office location and team. I also don't know about high pay. My understanding is that Spotify attempts to be a bit better than average but not much. In Sweden, pay is pretty low compared to most American companies but quality of life is still really high, especially for families. The good perks thing is true. Good vacation, private concerts in our offices (this is decreasing as we get larger). 6 months parental leave.
Don't understand reference to Sweden. Spotify office is in NYC which is very expensive especially if you have kids. How is Sweden family quality of life applies here? Just trying understand justification for low pay.
At least half of Spotifiers are employed and live in Sweden, where the company began. Spotify has a few engineering offices, the NYC one is probably the second largest. Pay is obviously much higher in NYC due to the higher cost of living.
Pay is low. People are nice...work life balance is good.
Really depends on the department. Engineering is pretty good over. HR is a cluster fuck. Politics run deep if you expect a raise or promotion. If you don't get a good salary coming in, you'll never get increased to where you should be and will have to leave for better pay. Great people are constantly leaving because HR can't get its shit together. Do your research before you interview so you know your worth. Whatever you come up with, increase it by 20% and see if they bite. The recruiters just want to get new hires in so just make sure to negotiate as much as you can with them.
Are they desperate for people? I keep having a recruiter pestering me more than usual.

Asians - what are your thoughts on asian female white male ?
Working crazy late? Spotify? Hahahahah
Yea. I've worked at our largest offices and would see very few people in the office after 7. Nobody ever in on the weekends. More people leave at 4 or earlier than after 7
I laughed too hahahah Maybe we would work a bit more agile coaches didn’t suggest to limit scope on everything lol
