Anyone have some insight on the culture of Starbucks? Is it a good environment to learn new things? Are the Glassdoor reviews accurate at all? For all you sarcastic assholes this is an engineering position. Not a barista ๐ #starbucks
Ex barista here, work is pretty hectic especially during rush hours.
I haven't worked in the technology org but Starbucks greatly values the people first mentality. It is a very feel good environment and there is a high priority on getting to know coworkers, networking and moving forward together. It's a wonderful thing if you're looking for friendship, team culture or support for personal life while having a great job. It is also really challenging if you are looking for quick decision making and flat organizations. Like most major companies, politics play a big role in getting things done - that's within the tech org as much as anything else.
I work in Starbucks technology - under 3 years in seat. There is a lot of space and encouragement to learn, though org to org it varies if there are heavy hitters to learn from if thatโs part of what you need to advance. The culture is kind and decent, genuinely. It was a surprising shift from my last company. Lots of built-in bureaucracy that some orgs just duck around and some accept and work through. My advice is to understand what kind of company / processes / flexibility you work best in and interview the team for whether what they have fits what you need.

The local culture is different then the corporate beliefs. My daughter worked there for a short time. She found the behavior of her fellow Barista to be toxic in most cases. Cliques and culture groups around your support of LGBTQ+. She loved the store she was trained, but once she got to her home store it was a mix bag. 2 months of drama, and got talk to about not using the proper pronoun. To be fair she wanted to work at Starbucks most of her life and was disappointed by management and petty behaviors.
