My Manager Might’ve Invaded My Health
I work as a SWE. I made an easy mistake while coding and it was caught during code review. But manager chewed me out and a team meeting and kept saying “are you blind? why did you miss this?” Basically the mistake is 2 characters in my code that would’ve actually been a disaster for the team. He kept saying I need to get my eyes checked and stuff like that. He is a really old ex-military guy. Well today I got an email from our benefits management team regarding VSP, reminding me that I was not maximizing my vision benefits and I can find care providers in our benefits portal. It wasn’t an automated message, and I confirmed with another new hire that he didn’t get this email. Is my manager just being a jerk?

Maybe I'm spoiled, but I would complain to HR or his boss. This is pretty out of line for how cushy most software roles are at companies like this.
He could have provided you feedback in a much more constructive manner. This is just berating
