Hey Blind community, Currently on a contracting firm, Have an offer from Grainger & Nordstrom almost same TC. Which one should I go with? I am on Visa. TIA
Idk any SWE’s at Nordstrom but i know a lot of other corporate employees and they love the place and people.
Nordstrom just did layoffs. Be aware
Laid off 20% of tech on Tuesday
Both are probably fked if economy deteriotes. Nordstrom more so but grainger is diverse but still logistics to a certain extent which means if manufacturing slows down its fewer goods shipped. Pick Grainger but look for a backup option.
Nordstrom just now did layoffs, so you’ll be safe
Probably more layoffs to come in the near future though
Please pick Grainger and work hard so their whole customer experience is better.
what's wrong with the CX?
Nordstrom just had layoffs on Tuesday. Many impacted employees were on Visa and got 0 severance. A new CTO is joining in May. We would expect some major reorg and maybe some more layoffs. Also don't count bonuses in your offer TC. Because we haven't received any bonuses in the last 2-3 years. With that being said, I would suggest staying away from Nordstrom for now.
The recruiter told me that they gave a 100% bonus for h2 2021.. isn't that true?
And the key point being “h2 2021”. Haven’t gotten much since then. The bonuses are tied to the sales numbers so don’t expect much in this economic
Highly dependent on area you'll be working in. Most ICs under certain directors (especially analytics/DS) are treated well with ample learning opportunities. Most eng roles are treated like dirt right now, and our talent levels are relatively low. If early career, I wouldn't pick Nordstrom.
Why are eng roles treated like dirt?
why don’t you try to find out more about the teams you will be working with instead and base your decision upon that
