The Silicon Valley companies, of course, will not be happy if it goes into effect. The order aims to overhaul and limit work visas, notably the H-1B visa program. Tech companies rely on these to bring in foreign talent. Their lobbyists claim there is a “talent shortage” among Americans and thus that the industry needs more of such work visas. This is patently false. The truth is that they want an expansion of the H-1B work visa program because they want to hire cheap, immobile labor — i.e., foreign workers." Of course you will have to move companies in order to get your increased TC that will result from this. It may result in more jobs moving overseas as well. All in all, very interesting and even more interesting to see a lefty rag admit Trump is right. #jobs #facebook #apple #google
I’m on H1B. The price tag for my work is definitely not cheap. Visa restrictions aside, there is significant demand for my skill sets and I can move companies if I want to. If the government keeps being a PITA for expats, we are just gonna take our business elsewhere. Thanks but no thanks.
Contractor-like hires are cheaper because you can be let go much more easily. Regular employees include risk as continual employment and severance are financial reasons to improve that person instead of simply replace them.
I get the argument. But good luck treating h1b workers like that. Other countries are definitely benefiting from US’s treatment of h1b workers. What govt should be doing is figuring out how to keep smart advanced degree grads in US with a clear path to green card and citizenship.
6 year of Opt Cut the h1b quotas to 2000 a year in case there are real talents. This will keep the talents studying in US and tackle the h1b fraud. I will see the Indians and Chinese to get green card much sooner than current projections.
This is 2017 article.
Seriously people don't even read the article
I confess I only read the title.
This article is so old that there’s no new info.
Just like trump was right about covid

Will next tech hub be Vancouver/Toronto?
Lol, you wish. It'd be UK first if anything because they're out of the EU. You'd have to be a moron to think any tech industry would be successful under Trudeau
It will not be UK because they are out of the EU. Funding for universities will be diminished due to research grants getting allocated elsewhere, diminished status of financial center over time... we’re more like to see Dublin and Berlin slurp up the jobs
