How many of us walked out in the USA for our colleagues who got laid off? Are we going to say it's normal in the USA?? https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hundreds-google-workers-zurich-walked-125500732.html #layoffs #layoff #google #facebook #USA #tech #walkout #protest #meta #microsoft #apple
I always wondered where do these people walk out to? Do they like gather in groups in a park? Or do they go to a coffee shop and chill out? Or do they go home? So is it like an unofficial holiday they are taking? So it's like a PTO just that everybody else is doing it at the same time
They all go to sloppy joes!
Isn’t the action and symbolism of “walking out.” There’s only so much you can do to support your coworkers that we’re laid off.
Harder to just walk out when your health insurance is tied to your employer, especially for those with existing conditions or children.
FWIW Switzerland does not have universal healthcare, out of pocket, post-tax at the very minimum coverage 300 CHF ($323) a month and can be upwards of 600 CHF ($646) a month per person. You still most likely have a 2500 CHF deductible as well. So without a job may be difficult to continue paying for healthcare costs.
All part of the plan.
USA = Wage $lave
They’re unionized. US workers don’t have the balls to walk out of anything.
Or maybe US workers have brains to not go commie! Layoffs are important to keep many of these companies healthy at this point.
Metas balance sheet is fine wtf do you mean keep them healthy. This is a total c*ck mentality. The real problem is that you can’t unionize H1Bs
American corporate is a system devised by psychopaths.
Good. Fire all of them.
Google is rich, they can just hire the many former Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and Google employees that are on the job market. So much talent on the streets.
Most tenured Googlers think that hiring ex-Amazon is what ruined their culture, my director literally said that
not in switzerland
I worked as a contractor for Walmart and around 2 years ago they laid off most PMs in our org, in a sudden merge move and they said they are trying to be more efficient as with the merge there were duplicate positions. It was so sudden that everything we were working on got canceled, after months trying to figure out what’s next, and no handovers and no business people to decide direction. I wasn’t FTE, they weren’t my friends, and they had a good severance, like multiple months, still I wanted to object this insanity, and I did but I didn’t know anyone higher up to reach the ones who decided this …. move.
I once walked from Salesforce after seeing my team members get laid off. No regrets
Did you go back next morning though
I quit and moved on
