I am a software engineer, with a year experience. I really want to get better at coding and solving problems. I seem stuck and I rely on YouTube to make tutorials. I have good project ideas , I just don’t know what to do . I use JavaScript for my backend and front end #engineering #software #swe How do I get better at coding , I really love web development and I want to be better
Get a book from manning.com Some of them teaches best practices with hands on projects. You can then use those concepts for your own projects. Those books are very well researched. Or get udemy or pluralsight account. You will have to constantly read and watch videos. You will eventually get better with practice.
With just a year of real coding experience, you are still having along way to go. With the right mindset you can get there in 5-10 years. First you will need to get more exposed to different problems and domains than just web development. Most young people started with that, but you will need to learn more. Start with web, then learn about backend, databases, distributed services, concurrent systems, kernel. If you want to stay focus early on, then drive deep in to a language and it’s constructs, it’s design patterns as well as general design patterns. Read a lot. Good devs pick up things really fast because most of the problems they see, is a problem they have already seen in a different language, context, domains. I’m talking about being able to pick up new stuff in hours, even 30min and not days. Most good devs have also been coding since they were very young, like 11-13 years old and have continued doing so since. With only 1 year of experience, you have a really long way to go.
