I am a miser, saving on a $5 starbucks frappe, tipping <10% in restaurants, saving on haircuts by going to a chain ($15) instead of a saloon ($25-40). On the other hand, I waste a lot of time instead of upskilling myself to get a better paying job. At the end of the day, I feel utterly stupid and dumb. How to bring this behavioral change, to be more focused on increasing my pay instead of saving a couple of hundred $$ a month on these cheap tactics? TC: 125K YOE: 4(US)+3(Home Country)

Thanks for this great suggestion, and not ridiculing me 😊🙏🏼!
Good on you for recognizing this about yourself! Now for the biggest challenge: who are you going to invest in to get a fruitful return in career? Pay yourself with time and effort instead of money and you will see your pay rewarded
Creat a budget, analyze how much you are saving vs how much you should save. Once you define a budget spend accordingly, it may take a couple of months to understand what you need vs what you don’t. Once you have a number, spend every bit of it ( or consider donating some part if it ). As you mentioned you save a couple of 100s per month, i am sure making a constructive exercise can make you earn you much more than what you save additionally.
Nothing wrong with being stingy man. To peoples point you should definitely tip more tho especially out with others or if it’s a place you routinely go to. At end of the day it may seem like choice but in cultures where no tip it’s just priced into food. So by not tipping you are essentially subsidizing food using money from workers pockets which wouldn’t be too bad if you were on welfare or something but you work in tech so any food service worker is definitely much less fortunate than you and does not deserve to be giving you a hand out.

You are dumb, for tipping less than 10% at restaurants. Just don’t dine out man!
I try my best not to, again to save money. Also, you are reiterating what I already admitted.
It’s fine to be cheap. Just don’t screw other people over due to your cheapness.. sheesh
