I am really sick of my co worker. He doesnt know shit still always tries to take all the credit.. Forcefully forwards hmself in all the discussion giving useless ideas. I on the other hand might not be the best, but am quite knowledgeable. I only speak when required, and listen to other people's ideas. But I seem to get a feeling that I might not be recognized enough for my contribution because of all this noise that he creates, without doing any actual work. I know most people would have dealt with someone like that in their lifetime. How did you handle it. Ignored him, and continued on with your work. He is so annoying. What should I do I am sick of it. your co-worker also believes they are quite knowledgeable just fyi
I know he is not because I had discussions with some other team members, and they have the same issues with that guy. Even without me bringing his topic, some teammates have brought up the issue of him having useless suggestions.
Buddy, it's not that difficult to tell whether someone is knowledgeable or not.
If his ideas are really useless then someone needs to counter and invalidate them. You could do that, which would help the group and also give you lots of opportunities to stand out and look good. In that case, a co-worker like you describe can actually help your career.
I have done that many times, but he doesnt accept it until someone other jumps in.. This just frustrates me, sometimes I have even lost my temper. I am thinking of switching team just because of that team member, he affects my mental peace.
Still thank you for your advice. Anymore suggestions as to how to maintain my calm over him.
I can guarantee you will find someone like this in every job you work in, in your life. So just chill and do the work. Don't worry about the credit. Just document things you have worked on and show to your manager during 1:1 or reviews.
Thank you for your advice. I know I might be pushing it. But have you ever lost your calm over him. Like getting loud or your tone going bad, during a conversation with him in between meetings.
It can also show your inability to communicate correctly. The more you push the more it gets worse
Maybe
Give it a rest if he’s really shitty, people will find out sooner or later
Also, it might help to change team/job all places have such people but you tolerate some better than others
I was also thinking the same, might be better to change teams, this is the first time for me dealing with such a person. Have worked in multiple companies before, had some people who I didnt like, but there was never someone who affected my mental peace or who made me feel so bad, that I dont even like being at places where he is present..
Well, I might sound harsh but your visibility is your responsibility, it's part of your job to ensure you have the right visibility. Failing to do so will create space for some assholes to take credit/improve their reputation at your expense. Stop complaining about that coworker and take action now to make sure you and your work are visible.
Agreed. But sometimes its really frustrating working with such individual. I feel team bonding gets affected by such teammates.
What do you mean by 150 THB? Is that 150k THB per year?
Yes every job has one, best bet is to ignore. Use 1:1s with manager to your favor to show you know more. Also, don’t try to counter him, it’ll only affect you. Find the opportunity where you can show your knowledge more and suggest solutions. Have more 1:1s with senior members to show your curiosity and knowledge. Usually, it’s the job of your manager to identify such people.
I should have created a poll asking how many of you have encountered such a person in your career. Maybe I am overreacting. It might be might fault of being too competitive or jealous.
Be patient sir. The real answers will come soon enough.
Tagged amazon here specially because heard culture is toxic, so many individuals might have dealt with such team mates
