How the fuck do people do it? My schedule: 9am check emails, coffee, relax, troll on Blind until 10:00 10am: standup 10:30-12: work 12-1: lunch 1-2: relax a bit on Reddit and YouTube.. start getting back into work mood 2-4: work 4: go home cause fuck staying until 5 total hours worked a day: 4 including standup. total hours worked a week: 20
Wtf. I’m at 60.
WTF? Why would you sell out your one life like that?
I am looking around and no one is hiring. It’s burnout city.
Im with you OP, don’t give anything more than the bare minimum
Same.
And how long have you been at Amazon, and how much do you get paid? Just wondering how they are able to quantify your 20-hour work as "enough to meet or exceed expectations" so that you can continue to work there.
I'm here for 3.5 years. I am able to continue to work by overestimating everything at standup. A 1 day task I would point it as 3 day task. Team is more than happy to agree
I am glad that it is working out for you. But don't stretch it too much or get used to that style too much. Team changes always happen, and someday, a tech-savvy person will enter the picture who will question why certain things will take that much time. You'll be in a pickle if you won't be able to wrap that conversation confidently - they will catch your bluff.
I work 15h a week max
Well, dang, refer me to capital one then lol
You’d definitely take a pay cut though
Not hard to understand. Some people have families that depend on their income, and the market is risky to jump into.
Not as extreme as you, but I find it almost impossible to be productive for 8 hours a day. If I don’t take any breaks, I can work 9-12. Then I need a lunch break. Then I can work from 12:30 to 3 max. And I am completely exhausted by 3pm. Or I take half hour breaks after every 2 hours of work. Then I can make it to 5pm. I don’t know how people manage to work 40+ hours. Unless they just sit in front of a screen for 10 hours a day but are truly productive for fraction of that time.
What they don’t see while staring at the screen is that their youth fading away and body succumbing. Life is to be lived, not to be running behind deadlines, regardless of how cutting edge one’s life is. Money and Fame is great and all but can’t buy that time and life moments back!
Completely agree. I do the pomodoro technique where I work in 25 minute chunks. I can only do about 8-10 pomodoros a day (about 3-4 hrs) of deep focus work (coding, pr review, doc writing, etc). Add in an hour of meetings and that's about 4-5 hours of work a day. I've tried going up to 12, but my brain gets fried after a couple days. I really have no clue how people say they work 50-60 hours a week consistently. Not sure if they're working super inefficiently or if they're just built different.
You’ll get the google treatment soon 🤫
No wonder my Amazon primes have been failing to deliver on expected time lately How dare you take a day off 😡
