I keep hearing how SQL is the bread and butter when it comes to data. But in my job I have to extract files in excel format from sap and we don't have a sql database. How do I add resume points pertaining to using sql?#sql #dataanalyst
Practice is on the side. And just say you have experience with it. Also, gtfo your current company
Can you help me understand the bad rep of SAP? I’m new to the industry and work for a subsidiary of SAP. Work on a relevant DevOps stack and upper management seems to be pretty cool. Doubt it’s like this outside of my team though, but I just keep reading negative stuff about SAP. It’s super relaxed to me 🤷♂️
It’s not about SAP. It’s about using excel as your main platform for data manipulation and ad-hoc analysis. This is ancient practice! Every other job nowadays requires some sort of SQL knowledge. They’ll test you for SQL in pretty much any worthwhile data analyst job out there.
There are some DS teams that do not use SQL. This has been true at every company I've worked at, including Lyft and FAANG.
What if I want to get a job to learn how SQL is used irl? How do I make that jump?
Aim for companies and teams that have really big data that doesn't fit in Excel.
