I currently work in the automotive business. I’m currently in a sales role, but I am looking to move up and start working as a finance manager. I got offered a position at another dealership, who offered to train me. I perform very well in sales, top 100 in the nation, top 3 always at my current store. Also new to the business, only been doing this for almost two years. After letting my sales manager know I had accepted the position, he offered to teach me finance. Although there isn’t anything open at the moment, he said I could fill in while the current finance manager isn’t there. And at one point when a position does open I could have it. I do have a great relationship currently with my sales manager. I am only live 10 mins away from work and overall love my work environment. Accepting the other position I would be taking a risk going to a new work environment (them not liking me, me not performing to their standards, etc.) and it would be 35 minutes away plus tolls. This completely threw me off… as I was thinking long and hard if I should accept the position to begin with, and now I’m pretty much where I started. Not sure if it matters but I currently work Volvo and I’d be leaving to work for Infiniti. I will say I do love and resonate with Volvo much better. I also have established clientele, but I am ready to move forward in my career. I am not worried so much on compensation because they are pretty in-line. If I did get a full-time position as F&I manager at Volvo, I would make more then Infiniti, but nothing too drastic. I just don’t want to be waiting and waiting for nothing to happen… Any advice would be appreciated. #interview #auto #dealership #finance
If you feel that you could grow with Volvo as a company I would stay as long the mgr made good on his promise.
Leave. Get the experience at Infiniti. Come back to Volvo in 2 years, they will offer you Sr Manager. Stay if he gives you the role right now. The ifs and when’s and buts is all bs, don’t fall for that. It may not even be his call, speak to people 2-3 levels up from ur manager who are the decision makers in opening a new headcount.
Words are meaningless - get it in writing - my suggesting is to leave - you can always come back as EBay says
Leave. They didn't recognize you till you decided to leave.
Tell them you are happy to come back when they have something concrete instead of words.
Good reply Magna
Take the new job, but keep the door open at this place if the new job doesn't work out and you want to come back
Update: I spoke with the General Manager, she agreed on sending me to F&I school, as well as start teaching me in the dealership. She is opening a position for me. Therefore I will be staying! I’m excited!
Get that all in writing OP. And signed by you and your manager. Great job and good luck!
Go to Infiniti. Finance at Volvo isn’t going to turn the same numbers at Infiniti. Then go anywhere in a year or so and get into an operational role. (17 years in the business and counting)
Gonna need some TC for context
If I decide to stay where I’m currently at, I’ll be making the same 110k, but Ill be taught F&I until a position opens up. At Infiniti earning potential is 140k+
But… a full time F&I at Volvo makes 160+
