I have an interview with Amazon for business analyst position

I need help to understand what do they ask from technical aspects for business analyst? Do they ask only SQL or do they ask you to create a tableau dashboard upfront and all? And what about behavioral apart from the leadership principles. Can anyone please guide me?

Same old bull crap and the Rule of Stock. You're welcome.

Axtria DesiLaunda Jan 7, 2019

Leadership principles + SQL. Also prepare details about your current/previous projects.

I’m going to hate myself for asking this I feel, but I can’t resist: what is the Rule of Stock?

Vertivco FastPapuan Jan 7, 2019

Will clarify: the Rule of Eurasian Stock. If you're not Eurasian ((they call us "animals")), then it doesn't matter how enriching your technical insight and teamworking skills are compared to the other candidates. They will see your ethnicity and come up with all reasons to turn you down. It's extremely hard to break.

Yep, was right. I hate myself.

I actually went through this a few years ago. Hated amazon business. Really didn’t talk much about sql, mostly leadership principals, problem/solution/value added, and behavioral. But majority of my answers revolved around tableau/sql anyway. Good luck

Thanks for responding. Can you help me with some examples of tableau or SQL questions?

Amazon -🔥🧀🔥- Jan 7, 2019

Specifically asked what was the most difficult problem I solved with sql. Walk me through how you would get me x from an extremely large dataset, now add in y dimension. Tableau wasn’t mentioned, it didn’t exist in my group when I joined and I had to fight to implement. Everyone I ran into that used Tableau always wanted to use live data for reporting. Doesn’t make sense with the way reporting data is stored. Be prepared to take over someone else’s queries and WBR.

You most likely get one person asking you more technical questions and the rest are all Leadership Principles based. Make sure you spend a lot of time on preparing your stories with a situaion-task-action-result structure.

I did this interview before. They will have a shared screen tool where they can see your sql code then they will start explaining a business scenario. I remember one of the scenarios you’ll have to use the HAVING function. After that phase they will ask for some ML questions then high level business questions. My interview was with the homepage team.

Amazon -🔥🧀🔥- Jan 7, 2019

Oh yeah, my boss always tested people by asking the difference between where and having.

Intuit qbse Jan 7, 2019

Lool do u work in the homepage team?

Amazon amzngap Jan 7, 2019

Be familiar with window functions, use the sql on the programmer interview website as a guideline for prep. Overall i felt amazon sql is fairly straight forward. Business analyst interviews are dominated by leadership principle questions, be prepared to have responses for questions such as talk about a time you disagreed with your mgr, made a data error, when you distrubed status quo, went above and beyond expectations, where you needed to focus on customer needs
