I was reading this interesting post the other day about what it means to be Google'd, Apple'd, etc. And things about what it means to be Amazon'd to others didn't really apply to me because I have been EU'd. And I'll explain what it is: I come from a Non-EU country and got a job with Amazon in the EU. * I work less than 8 hours a day. I basically start at 11:30 after my standup and turn off my laptop at 18:00 * Amazonians here are alienated from the term PIP. I got to know about it first here on Blind and never seen anyone talking about it over here. * I have free healthcare * I get 26 days off per year + National Holidays * I get unlimited time-off for medical emergencies. * I spend my weekends in any beautiful EU city I want. * If I do get fired, the government would pay me a salary instead. What does it mean to be USA'd, Canada'd or India'd? TC: 85K (L4) YoE: 2
I am paid 30x then in india USA'd
But living in the fear of PIP
Who cares. Every year work will save 10 years salary. Better to work get piped and take a break than sit around doing almost nothing with you life.
“TC: 85k” There’s your answer. Plus 30%+ taxes. Lol.
Everyone doesn't have the right to work in the USA.
Most people working in the US are on visa. You can try the diversity lottery
85K euros or USD? Where are you based?
USD. But my next year's TC will be more because of those 40% RSUs kicking in.
- I work 9-6 everyday - I have to have keep appearances of work because work is worship - My coworkers are from all over the globe - Sometimes I feel like correcting their grammar even though I know that English elsewhere is different - My pay is too high for the work I do - But I deserve it because I have to deal with shit management everyday - I dream of FIREing to a lcol country because I earn so much - But I can't fire because I need to keep up with the Joneses - Third largest population in the world and the only close friend I have is my dog - I dare not quit working because I'll quite literally lose access to healthcare - Never heard of these things called long vacations - Guns are cheaper than dental work I've been Murica'd

What is 'Joneses'?
Why don't you have to go back to home country, if you lose job? Isn't the work visa tied to your employer?
5 years and I get permanent residence + citizenship if I learn the language to some B1 extent.
5 years is a long time. Stay cautious to avoid pip before that, if you're planning to stay at Amazon till then. 🙂 Good luck!
USA’D and especially in the Silicon Valley beside the higher TC we are if the heart of innovation and opportunities. The options are eliminated if you want to take advantage of it. Yeah we have PIP At Amazon but % of people that go through it is small (~5% or so) and even though most of them find a better opportunities after… USE’D you don’t have to be born here to get a chance to succeed professionally, your skills and ambition drive your progress, not your skin color! Bottom line every place has its pros and cons !
Furloughed with 40 minutes left on Friday. Instantly no job, no healthcare coverage but told can continue insurance with COBRA. COBRA cost $500/month and my income is now $0. I've been USA'd.
Time to start the American revolution.
New is eligible for free healthcare with $0 income. Also new has full access to old health plan and only has to pay it retroactively if decide to use it. New just likes to exaggerate for dramatic effect.
How's that TC for your location?
Not too bad when Google pays 30K in Warsaw.
Great. Also I thought PIP was a universal Amazon thing
Are you non-tech role? $85K is crazy low for SDE. And isn't taxes like 60% there? YOE: 2 TC: $210K. I work roughly 40-50 hrs a week. Do I fear pip? Nope, would just hop to another tech company after severance and a long vacation. So many options here.
Google pays 30K in Warsaw. That's perhaps the plus of a big market.
Yeah TC isn't everything. Sounds like your TC is good for the area. My views are skewed in the USA, Blind tells me $200K is low pay.

TC and I think you will have your answer.
Money doesn't buy happiness. Plus that's a bad flex of being born in the USA. Some things can't be changed and have no control over.
“You have no control over TC” is a nice lie to tell yourself to feel better
