[Venting] :Today has been a particularly crazy day. I was laid off on visa. But now , as much as I want to find next job because of visa restrictions, I don't feel like finding a new job, applying / reaching out or even leetcoding. Because there doesn't seem to be any point anymore for this - again spending multiple days sweating on what company is a good fit and trying to find companies that will not be laying off --> and if you end up getting the offer somehow, again go ahead and just get paranoid about getting laid off anyway in this economic conditions. it just feels pointless at this point in time for me to go ahead and apply for a new job and prep for interviews, because this whole cycle again of struggling to LC , getting an offer, worrying about shit politics / growth and lay offs repeat. I dont even know if there are companies that are any good where there is a good balance of comp., WLB and job security for SWEs on visa anymore anywhere. Are there any companies that do offer a good balance of comp., WLB and job security for SWEs on visa anymore anywhere in the US? TC : 310k #swe #software #engineering #layoff #layoffthoughts
Yoe ?
Become an entrepreneur in your home country (India I presume) or become a doctor
yeah thats what I am thinking about now, just need to gather my thoughts from this rut!
Is becoming a doctor viable path for a code monkey? Or is this a joke. Ive been thinking about actually doing this
If you lower your expectations for comp, you can find tons of chill places.
Yeah I guess that is way to go about it for now , at-least until economy recovers? not sure
Could you list them?
How about Google?
Literally thousands of candidates passed interview and waiting for team match in the last 5 months.
I wish Google worked out, but the interviews are just too hard or unrealistic for me to pass , unless I get lucky and get some sane questions, everytime I interviewed, - I basically got some weird Math or hard DP Q and ended up getting reject with very vague feedback.
Sorry to hear that my friend. Where are you from?
Thank you so much for your kind words , I am from India
Have you thought about Canada? I know this isn’t gonna sound good but India is no place to live (speaking from experience). I say mourn your losses for some time and go to Canada where you’ll have security. When I lived in India I couldn’t see the sky be blue or breathe clean air because of the pollution. Go to Canada for some peace and maybe come back later.
You will be fine, just give it time till Monday. You will find better job.
Hopefully true, thank you for the encouragement !
Series A cos are hiring aplenty.
I have been receiving a few requests from Series A,B,C's but again my PTSD from working at a pre-ipo (Stripe) and getting laid off <1 year of start makes me feel it'll be a bad idea applying to the start ups too
Suck it up, doesn’t matter how you feel, do what’s necessary
Try Canada. One year work experience then you are free
Also I’m really sorry for your situation. It happened to me a while ago as well
Absolutely , I am thinking of Canada as an option now to move too, literally looking up moving to Canada.
I am so sorry for your situation. Just hang in there. Take 3 or 4 days break and revisit your thoughts.
Thank you so much for your kind words , it really helps and really appreciate your help !
It’s called venting.
