TL;DR brutal out there. Any suggestions for tech companies that aren't toxic? Doesn't have to be hiring now, just to add to my radar - laid off last year - many jobs that I interview for are backfills, half of hiring managers admit previous person was "managed out". Questionable if legit or not - Many resumes sent with no response or ghosted after initial contact - I always had praises for my work from yoe 1-11 - rescinded offer in Mar - 3 onsites done, no offers yet FP&A = financial planning & analysis 11 YOE TC before layoff $260k
Can I DM you?
sure
tough break, keep trying tho. my 2 cents: look for companies that value fpa as a value add partnership and role that drives growth as opposed to a purely reporting function. product finance / gtm finance / sales finance is what u should aim for. for public companies, look for 30%+ growth yoy and if startup, look for post pmf and product focused finance roles that provide roi/decision support.
Are you cfa qualified ?
I actually am a cfa
Uber had openings from last i remember. Please take a look at career site and you can dm me your resume if find any suitable role.
Is there a reason you’re only looking at tech companies? If you’re a SWE that makes sense but for FP&A aren’t there a bunch of other options
Tech companies pay relatively well for FP&A jobs, at least the big companies. Like, a manager 1 earns $180-$280k per year. Hard to beat that. I'm open to banks but I haven't been successful in sending my resumes to them.
I’m not sure if you’ve tried Cap One or not, but with 11 YOE if you got in you would get paid something in the range you mentioned
The rescinded offer concerns me. Were you working for a disreputable company? Do you have existing negative news, or something that would go against you on a credit report or background check? Were you in FP&A at SVB or something?
No, the companies I worked for are one of those you typically see on the news. Think something along the lines of Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. And no, my managers didn't throw me under the bus. My managers helped me get my last job.
I work with the worst FPA team I’ve ever experienced in 11 years, please come replace them
Why just in tech? That really limits your options, especially for an area that is specifically downsizing. This role exists in many places, and you can arguably have even more career growth or more impact in other industries.
What FP&A companies pay $180-280k for a tier 1 manager? I know banks do, but It has been hard to get a hold of them. It seems that my resume goes to some kind of black hole. I tried getting referral, pinging people, etc., nothing.
I think you’re holding out for too high of comp and it’s not working. Be willing to go for 150-200K, and I think the options will open. Plus you’ll be back above this in no time. Unfortunately, tech was very highly paid. Probably too highly. That’s exactly why those roles have been cut, and I don’t think it’s particularly good to bet on them coming back. Acknowledge when something good is gone, double down, and find a new path back. Get into banking / finance.
What geo?
US west is my preference
Where were you laid off from and what level are you in FP&A? You’ve only had 3 interviews since last year?
Undisclosed company name. Level is M-1 / L6 I worked for one of those big tech firms like meta, Microsoft, Netflix, Amazon, then a much smaller one (the one that let me go)
Wow.. op wants job references but expect to without knowing any information.
