Where to start? Just like millions of Indians, I also got trapped into this so called American Dream. Growing up I saw numerous articles in newspapers about Indian students securing 1-2Cr packages and working in USA and growing up in an awe and an unknown fascination with the whole western culture I also decided to get on the path to USA thru F1. And after slogging my ass for many years and finally secured an h1b and eventually an approved perm to get me on a path to PR. I have built a life here, got married and had kids in USA. But now it seems like an impossible trek to climb the mountain of never ending backlog to eventually get a green card. From where I stand it seems there are higher chances of the world ending due to ww3 or eventually a zombie apocalypse than securing a green card in this lifetime. The constant stress of being on a visa and the immobility it provides to change jobs have made my life very stressful. Believe me I am not here to complain. USA had helped me learn to be independent, confident and provide skills that I am eternally grateful for but the stress of never ending extensions and securing a visa appt whenever traveling internationally and also the potential risk of redoing. Perm if I decide to move up the ladder or change jobs had made my career stagnant. Now moving to India seems like a far dream considering my kids are us citizens and don’t seem to have the desire to uproot their lives and move to india with us. I don’t blame the American ppl here. It’s a sweet deal for them honestly. Have people come to USA spend thousand on fees, pay into taxes and social security and eventually move back to their home country. There is really no incentive for them to fix this broken immigration system. The hope of this post is to provide some visibility into the eventual path one takes when he/she decides to pursue the path to the so called American dream. If you are a student or someone deciding to pursue this so called dream! Please think twice grass is not greener here.
Yawn. Green card is not a right.
Op didn’t claim it’s a right. He is just explaining the problems he has to face without one which he didn’t know before coming to US and now is in a difficult situation since he can’t move back because of kids. With his experience he is just warning others to consider it before moving to US. A lot of people would have chosen a different path had someone explained them both pros and cons of moving to US.
Yawn. Nothing was a right until a law was ratified idiot.
Dude, have some dignity and self worth and stop begging in a foreign country, you knew the rules when you came here right? You should be prepared to leave anytime if you are on a visa. They get your hard work, you get great standard of living and money. So what’s the problem here?
Half the people already in the backlog dont know how the complicated mess works, let alone students planning to get university admissions.
90% dont know when they come in . Its not a question of dignity or begging , he is just speaking truth. It actually becomes painful once it involves kids
You already have your kids born here. What’s the complaint? Just wait till they become 21 and can sponsor your green card.
Umm go back then, we have enough workers here
Here are the latest articles which tells how many are actually returning or contemplating the return. https://backtoindia.com/how-many-nris-return-to-india/nri/ https://retirement.outlookindia.com/plan/news/60-of-nris-consider-returning-to-india-after-retirement-sbnri-survey
Become a manager, go to Canada for 1 year and come back on L1-A visa if possible. Getting a green card is easier this way and you should get one within 3-5 years.
What is ur priority date ?
Okay
