I work for a company with less than 60 people, I was talking to our HR person about something else and they mistakenly shared their screen with everyone's salaries. I took a screenshot, and now I know I get paid the least in my team. I feel super demotivated and a bit angry since I've been working here since we had like 5 people. What do I do with this information?

Check market rate , and Leave the company . :)
Get a counter offer from somewhere else. If they increase then fine else leave with the new offer
NEVER go for counteroffers. You basically stick a target on your back so that you can get fired after they find someone cheaper.
Only get a counter if u know ur 100% indispensable to the team / have specialized knowledge that will harm the company if u leave. Very few people have this
Share it on blind!
Doesn’t sound real. HR happened to reviewing salaries before meeting with you, and happened to sharen that screen and gave you enough time to take a screenshot before closing, and your salary happened to be the least in the team?
I remember a time at MSFT when the HR accidentally sent everyone on a site DL the levels and pay + monthly allowances for everyone in that site during a payroll run window. This was before RMS was deployed across the board, a lot of us downloaded that XLS and these salary discrepancies were discussed for weeks. Still have that XLS lol I’ve also gone into HR folders by mistake years ago when searching for something else on Sharepoint where all HQ located employee data about promotions and pay was kept in an XLS. 🤷🏻♂️
Oh boy... You overestimate HR too much. Think it twice. Who are these people that often end up working at an HR office?? Those are your ex-classmates that failed at Math, Computers or any other class that required a brain larger than that of a rat. Fun fact: I had the same experience that OP had with an HR agent at a major global Consulting company. With that screenshot I negotiated a raise with my manager. 70% up 2 months later.
Don't disclose you have the info, but use the knowledge as leverage in negotiating a raise. You know the range their willing to pay, that helps.
Yeah why would they share it long enough for a screenshot???
I alway take screenshot just by pressing PrntScr key. Takes 0.28 seconds. Once done take your own time to paste the image in mspaint and save it.
Ask for a raise.
It probably wasn’t an accident. He or she was showing you
Being the oldest at a company is a recipe for getting paid the least. You should already know this if you spend any time on Blind. Job hopping is the best way to get ahead although maybe not in the current market. But you have no leverage right now anyways.
I'm in a similar spot. I'm in the top 10% for seniority, but the bottom 10% for wages. Part of it is that I've never job hopped, but another factor is when you work for a rapidly growing company. More recent hires are drawn from a much bigger talent pool and can command higher pay. Someone who joined when there were 100 employees might not even be able to get an interview with the same company when it has 2000 employees.
Haha thats how it works. Thats part of cost cutting. They pay more to attract talent. But wont pay you until and unless you ask for it or get another offer and resign. At that point only they ll level you up because cost of retaining < cost + time of new hiring. At my previous employer I had joined as a Senior Software. My TL has been working there for 3 years, was chill person. But one night after drinks he accidently revealed his salary and I found my company was paying us same. Honestly I really felt bad for that guy. He was hard working and deserved more pay than me but yes if they hadnt paid me that much I would have gone with another offer.
As a TL I always use that trick when out drinking with teammates. It makes them sympathetic towards me and they stop being jealous + makes them feel good about their salaries and don't ask for raises for atleast 2 years. Everybody wins.
Why do you have to make this strategy to Pacify your team when it's not your job. This seems more like what a manager should do
