I worked for a privately held company. Owners have probably billionaire status. And I stopped trying to save my company money. Need a new laptop? Approved! Need a licence renewed? Approved! Need new headcount? Approved! Need to buy this new data? Approved! At the end of the day, we’re only a number on a spreadsheet and saving money for our companies doesn’t benefit us: it benefits the shareholders/owners. At the end of the year my bonus is not gonna go up proportionally to the amount of money I did not spent (hundreds of thousand / year) and I also make everyone around me happier at work.
Yes you only save them money in terms of how efficiently their systems and infrastructure operate (less cloud billing costs, time saved by making a process faster or more efficient, etc). However you don’t try to save them money on stuff like hardware, software licensing, food, travel, etc
I like you, op.
