I think I reached terminal TC

I reached a TC I'm happy with. I have a house I love and have no desire to upgrade to bigger. I'm able to afford a car I like. I eat out and spend on little things whenever I like and still max out my 401k and have leftovers to save. I love coding and don't have a burning desire for early retirement. My question is where do I go from here? A year ago I was really focused on maximizing my TC. I would work, then go home and Leetcode, my dream was 400-500k. But now I feel like more TC is just more in my bank account, doesn't make a difference. Maybe I wouldn't have to compare prices between Uber/Lyft before booking a ride, and having to look at prices at the grocery store but to me that's whatever. I don't have kids yet but plan to in the future. The person I want to marry will bring in 100k+ YOE: 3 TC: 240k

Focus on converting your job into a job you love that pays the same. You can do this by making strategic lateral moves if needed and/or shaping your assignments (create and sell projects that interest you, build relationships that help you move in directions that interest you, delegate away work you dislike, etc.).

I love my current role as an IC. I love writing code

Lockheed Martin anonlmpm Mar 25

That’s great - but could you be more choosy about the types of problems you tackle or the tools you are asked to use, etc? “I love writing code” is pretty broad. What would make you say “can you believe they pay me for this?”. If nothing else, be vigilant in protecting against scope creep.

Live life, and enable yourself to keep earning but definitely focus on the stuff that matters like friends, family and love. And fun. You'll always want more money if you have kids ( look at daycare costs, or private schools and college) and you can't assume you and your spouse will always be employed particularly if they have kids or if either of you ever get sick so don't sabotage and keep living cheaply, but you're fine to focus on more. Your TC is already in the top 5% of the country- blind distorts

you have the right mindset, just live life. spend time on hobbies, with friends, family. be happy that you’re not chasing more money and stay the hell off of blind. the worst job of all is living life with the “not enough” mindset, when in reality you have enough! i’m in a similar boat as you. we’re not making $500k, but we have enough and realize it. that’s worth more than 600k, chasing more and more with no life capital (social, love, psychological) money is not the only capital

What’s next? Look at investments in addition to your 401K…make sure most of your $ is making you more money for you to use as needed and enjoy your life. It sounds like you like your job. That’s good. Make sure you’re still seen as valued by management to minimize being in a layoff pool and make sure you continue to show and grow your skills in case you need to find a new job.

FWIW, I’m the same. I reached FI several years ago. Raises, bonuses, and RSUs are nice extras now. In my case I’m looking at stepping away from corporate next year.

Next step is prenup

Bloomberg, happy to hear you’ve found peace in these crazy times. The lady making six figs is also a plus. Please don’t be a victim to lifestyle creep. Clear debt and live freely. Cheers 🍻

If 240k is enough, your risk assessment isn't accurate.

How is TikTok TC ? Been asking forever

FAANG-like

Kids are expensive. Of course 240k is fine while you're still young and single. Desire to retire early may also grow when you've been doing this for many years.
