The layoffs are extremely disheartening and scary. I’m sorry to all that are affected :( I am starting to think this will good and a pivotal time in history for tech. I have a theory that a lot of smart and talented engineers, designers, product people and others will flock to these mid sized companies and drive innovation there. Out of spite I want to join a mid sized tech company to show big tech they are being careless. Big tech will get too stuck in its ways and will be left behind as the talent flocks out. I’m excited to see how these mid sized tech companies drive innovation. Or amazing start ups from the people that got laid off. This will naturally place really smart people on much harder problems like healthcare and climate. Big tech isn’t where cool problems are being solved. Any thoughts?
Are you laid off, op?
Luckily I am not
Small and mid size companies also pay pretty well for LCOL and remote. Always good to keep an open mind
We’re you laid off? Did you ever have trouble paying bills?
I'm of the opinion that established privately held companies are the best place to be in for the foreseeable future. They don't have to please the Wall Street every quarter.
Any good examples you can think of besides Bloomberg? Gonna keep a shortlist to prep for when the inevitable happens
Some people like paths that are defined and seen so they feel safe about it. It’s really about mindset.I have seen many stanford graduates being more adventurous, probably because they have the talents and confidence, as well as good family support and network for that.
Only time will tell
